The Radar 135 has been around for a while, and there is a reason it is still in the lineup. Wilderness Systems calls it tri-powered: paddle it, pedal it with the included Helix PD drive, or add the Helix MD motor drive later.

That flexibility is the selling point. if a do-everything platform sounds like your kind of boat.

At 13 feet 6 inches, this is a big-water hull. It is built for anglers who want to stand and cast in open water and still cover distance when they need to.

Who It Is For

Versatile anglers who fish different water. Pedal the flats in the morning, pull the drive and paddle skinny creeks in the afternoon, bolt on the motor drive for big lakes later. If you can only own one fishing kayak, this is a strong candidate.

Stability

The S.M.A.R.T. hull is designed for standing, with a flat open deck and a 34-inch beam. It handles chop without feeling nervous. The defined keel line helps it track, and the rockered chines keep it responsive when you need to turn.

Comfort: The AirPro MAX Seat

This seat is one of the best in the business. It slides fore and aft, adjusts high and low, and the mesh fabric breathes on hot days. The 3D foam supports your lower back. I have done full tournament days in this seat without thinking about it, which is the highest praise a seat can get.

Storage and Rigging

SlideTrax rails run the bow and midship for accessories. The FlexPod OS console in the center swallows a fish finder, battery, and transducer with clean cable routing. For the battery, I recommend the WattCycle 12V 100Ah mini LiFePO4 battery with Bluetoothit runs most 12V trolling motors up to 55lb thrust plus a fish finder, and it’s compact and light. The rectangular center hatch sits flush with the deck so you can stand on it. Add the Orbix bow hatch, molded tackle pockets, and a big stern tankwell, and you have room for a serious load.

Pedal Drive Performance

The Helix PD uses a 6:1 gear ratio in an all-aluminum housing with waterproof seals. It deploys from the scupper pod and stows with a spring-loaded system for shallow water. Pedaling is efficient, and the built-in steering control gives you hands-free navigation. It is not the fastest drive on the market, but it is proven and tough.

Honest Drawbacks

Ninety pounds before you add the drive, so call it 100-plus on the water. You will want a trailer or a cart with big wheels. The rudder is sold separately, and you will want it for tracking in wind. At 13-foot-6, transporting and storing it takes planning.
