Saturn Inflatable Boats: Every Model Compared

Dinghies, fishing boats, KaBoats and micro skiffs, pedal kayaks, rafts and catamarans. How the Saturn lineup from Boats2Go fits together, with what I found when I took them on the water.

Why I keep coming back to inflatables

I live on the water in Florida and I have tried just about every kind of small boat. Inflatables keep surprising me. We have run inflatables over with a truck, thrown them off my house and taken them shark fishing. They store in a closet, ride in a car instead of on a trailer, and the good ones are tougher than people think.

Saturn is the inflatable line sold by Boats2Go (boatstogo.com), an online inflatable boat retailer that has been selling Saturn boats for well over a decade. The range is huge, from 8 ft dinghies to an 18 ft boat rated for 10 people, so this page sorts it out by what you want to do.

What I tested on the water

Saturn 13 ft inflatable fishing skiff, about $500 when I bought it: heavy canvas carry bag, rated for 15 PSI, track mounts, D-rings and rubber strips on the bottom. I put a Newport NT300 electric outboard on the back, strapped in lawn chairs and went. I could stand, sit and go over waves without it feeling tippy, and it handled oysters along my seawall fine. It is basically Legos for boaters. Read my full skiff review.

Saturn FPK365 inflatable pedal kayak, about $800: I put it head to head with a $3,000 Hobie iTrek. The fin pedal drive felt very close to Hobie’s MirageDrive, just not quite as smooth. I gave the Hobie a 10 out of 10 for maneuverability and the Saturn an 8. I could walk around and stand on it, and at under 50 lb I carried it with one hand and rolled it into my trunk. The Hobie is still the gold standard, but the Saturn is a real option that saves thousands. Read the full comparison.

How to read this page: the two boats above I tested myself. The rest of the lineup I cover from Boats2Go’s published specs in my reviews. Specs are as listed there. “4 + 1” means four adults plus one child.

Which Saturn is right for you?

  • Fishing on a budget with a small motor: a KaBoat or micro skiff. This is the type I tested.
  • Pedal fishing that fits in a car: the FPK365 fin pedal kayak.
  • Tender for a bigger boat, or 2 to 4 people: an SD dinghy (SD260 to SD330).
  • Family boat with a real outboard: SD365 and up. The SD430 to SD518 use 20 in tubes and carry 7 to 10 people.
  • Cheapest way onto the water: the CB budget boats.
  • Rivers and whitewater: the RD and AMR rafts, or the FR fishing rafts.

SD inflatable sport boats and dinghies

The core of the Saturn lineup: inflatable boats with a hard or air floor and a transom for an outboard. The PRO and professional-grade versions are built heavier.

Professional-grade PRO boats, heavy-duty and other sport boats:

Fishing and budget boats

Lighter boats with smaller tubes. The FCB fishing boats share their sizes with the CB budget boats, and the FB boats are the heavy-duty option.

KM V-keel and flat-bottom boats

Saturn-branded boats with an inflatable keel (the D models) for better tracking under power, or a flat bottom for simplicity.

KaBoats and micro skiffs

Long, narrow inflatables you can paddle like a kayak or run with a small motor. My 13 ft skiff test is in this family. The XL and FKB versions are the heavy-duty builds.

Inflatable kayaks, pedal kayaks, SUPs and catamarans

The FPK365 is the fin pedal kayak I tested against the Hobie iTrek. The SUPCAT kits are catamaran kits for paddle boards.

Want to compare with other inflatable pedal kayaks? See the iTrek section of my Hobie brand guide and my best pedal kayaks guide.

Rafts

River rafts, whitewater rafts and fishing rafts with frames.

Motors, floors and accessories

Electric fin motors, consoles and motor mounts, then floors, wheels, covers, carts, docks and bags that fit Saturn boats.

For power, my best kayak motors guide and battery guide cover what I run. My Boats2Go discount code is on my Gear & Codes page.

My inflatable tips

  • Get an electric pump. I always use a compact electric pump. It saves a lot of time and effort over the manual one in the box.
  • Watch the sun. In the Florida heat, glued seams can bake and fail. Do not leave a glued-seam inflatable pumped up in the sun when it is out of the water.
  • Inflate in order. On boats with an air floor, put some air in the floor first, then the tubes, then top off the floor so the fabric stretches into shape.

Saturn FAQ

Who makes Saturn inflatable boats?

Saturn inflatable boats are sold by Boats2Go (boatstogo.com), an online inflatable boat retailer that has sold the Saturn line for well over a decade.

Is the Saturn FPK365 as good as a Hobie iTrek?

Not quite, but it is close for the money. In my side by side test the Saturn pedal drive felt very close to the MirageDrive, just less smooth, and I rated its maneuverability an 8 out of 10 against the Hobie's 10. It was about $800 versus about $3,000 at the time.

Can you stand up in a Saturn inflatable?

On the two I tested, yes. I stood on both the 13 ft fishing skiff and the FPK365 pedal kayak, and the skiff felt stable even going over waves.

What motor can I put on a Saturn skiff?

I ran a Newport NT300 electric outboard on my 13 ft Saturn skiff. Check each boat's motor rating on its product page before you buy a motor.
