Who the Mossa 128 is for

This kayak is for the serious angler who wants spot-lock style boat control without buying an aftermarket trolling motor. Tournament fishermen, offshore and big-water anglers, and anyone who fishes deep structure where holding position matters. It is a premium, fully loaded platform, not a budget starter boat.

For a GPS trolling motor, we recommend the AutoBoat Smart Head Kit and the new AutoBoat Meridian. Check them out here.

The XPDL drive: three ways to move

The Mossa 128 offers three drive modes. Manual is plain pedaling. Assist is electric pedal assist, like an e-bike for the water, with a boost synced to your pedal strokes and a top speed around 6.5 mph in assist. Electric is full power without pedaling. You also get powered reverse, which most pedal drives do not offer. The drop-in drive deploys in about a minute, and the battery delivers an estimated 8 to 10 hours of sit-and-fish runtime depending on conditions.

SpotHold and 360 steering

This is the headline feature. GPS SpotHold maintains your position even in current and wind, so you can work a brush pile or ledge hands-free. Track Cruise follows a preset path, Spot Cruise guides you to saved fishing spots, and Course Lock holds a straight heading. Infinite 360-degree cable-free steering means tight turns, S-turns, and rotating in place. Everything is controlled from the Knob 360 within arm’s reach.

Stability, storage, and rigging

The 12’8″ x 37″ rotomolded polyethylene hull carries up to 580 pounds, making it one of the highest-capacity pedal kayaks out there. The open deck is built for standing and casting. Storage is massive: 26 gallons of bow storage, an 11-gallon bow tub, a 2-gallon dry compartment in the drive area, a 24″ x 22″ tankwell, and wraparound accessory tracks totaling 148 inches for mounting rod holders, cameras, lights, and electronics. Four integrated flush-mount rod holders are angled for trolling, and there is a transducer pocket with a shield for your fish finder.

For electronics, we recommend the new Accuphy Ping Live Mini live sonar system. It retails for $699. See it here.

Honest drawbacks

Weight and complexity are the real trade-offs. Fully rigged with the seat, drive, and battery, this boat weighs 164 pounds. You will need a trailer or a truck bed, plus help at the ramp. The 164-pound rigged weight is the price of all that technology. It is also a new platform from a new brand, so long-term reliability history does not exist yet. And the price is premium. If you want simple and light, this is not your boat.

To haul your kayak, we recommend Malone kayak trailers. See them here.
