YakAttack Kayak Accessories: The Complete Guide

Tracks, mounts, rod holders, crates, visibility poles and anchor gear. How YakAttack's rigging system fits together, from someone who has rigged with it since 2014.

Why YakAttack shows up on so many kayaks

A lot of us rig our kayaks with YakAttack gear, me included. Back in 2014 I installed YakAttack GearTrac on my fishing kayak, and that one piece of track opened up a lot of mounting options: Scotty rod holders, MightyMounts, RAM ball setups, fish finders and camera poles. On my Hobie Pro Angler 14 I put a MightyMount on the stern for a light pole, and I showed how to install the backing plate even when you cannot reach inside the hull. I even built a cheap anchor reel from a cutting board, modeled on the YakAttack Sidewinder.

I have walked the YakAttack booth at ICAST several times, including a long 2019 walkthrough of their tracks, flags, lights, tool holders, anchor trolley and ParkNPole. In 2025 I looked at their new Yak Motor, and I was upfront about it: it appears to be a white labeled Haibo Platypus Q007, so compare both before you buy.

Some background: YakAttack was founded in 2009 by Luther Cifers and is headquartered in Farmville, Virginia. Cifers also founded Bonafide Kayaks.

How to read this page: this is a gear brand, so instead of spec tables I have grouped every YakAttack product on KayakDIY by what it does. My install videos and ICAST walkthroughs are listed below.

How the YakAttack system fits together

  • Start with track. Tracks are the base of a YakAttack setup. GearTrac bolts to your hull, and most of the mounts below ride on it.
  • Add mounts to the track. LockNLoad, MightyMount, Screwball and TurnKey adapters let you swap rod holders, fish finders and cameras without tools.
  • No track or an inflatable? Surface mounts and Switchpad flexible mounts work where track will not.
  • Storage goes in the tank well. The BlackPak crate is the hub, and TracPak boxes stack and lock together.
  • Be seen. VISIcarbon poles and lights matter if you fish around boat traffic or at night.
  • Stake out in the shallows. A ParkNPole is the simple way to hold a spot without an anchor.

YakAttack FAQ

What is YakAttack GearTrac?

GearTrac is YakAttack's accessory track. You bolt it to your kayak, and then rod holders, fish finder mounts, camera poles and other mounts slide on and lock in place.

Can I use YakAttack gear on a kayak without track?

Yes. YakAttack makes surface mounts, MightyMounts and Switchpad flexible mounts for spots without track, plus a mount option for inflatable kayaks.

Is the YakAttack Yak Motor worth it?

It is a 34 lb thrust motor with GPS and remote steering, and you can use your own battery. When I looked at it at ICAST 2025 it appeared to be a white labeled Haibo Platypus Q007, so compare both before you buy.

Who owns YakAttack?
